History of The Earth Team Works

The Earth Team Works, a community service organization, was formed on Kauai in the Fall of 2001 by Catherine Stovall.

Community members from around the island meet weekly in Kapaa during the fall of 2001 for several months to brainstorm on how to have greater unity on Kauai and how to become more sustainable. From these meetings a plan was developed and a series of "Economic and Ecological Fairs" were held at Peter Rayno Park in Hanamaulu. One thousand copies of the plan were distributed around the island.

In 2003 Bryan Baptiste was elected Mayor of Kauai and he made community building a prioirty for his administration. Through the "Ka Leo O Kauai", The Voice of Kauai, program implemented by Mayor Baptiste, over 500 community meetings were held in 14 towns around the Island with over 2700 residents attending one or more of the meetings. There has been great progress as a result of these meetings and the dedicated work of Kauai residents. In 2005 The State of Hawaii mandated the development and implementation of the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan requiring State legislation to consider the effects on our future generations.

Many of community members who participated in The Earth Team Works, organization, fairs and community development, are active participants in their communities insuring a sustainable future for themselves and our future generations.
